The Top 10 Tips for your best CoolSculpting Experience from our resident CoolSculpting Technicians Amber and Charlene

Here is a list of tips that have been compiled by the experts at Vive Med Spa for the best CoolScuplting session and optimal recovery.

1. Take photos of your journey

We’ll take clinical photos of you before, during recovery, and at the end of three months. You may also take more photos and videos of yourself doing different activities in the same clothing both before, during recovery, and after your treatments. It’s easy to forget where we started when we see ourselves in the mirror every day; we miss the gradual changes.

2. Stay Hydrated and Have a Healthy Meal Before Your CoolSculpting Treatment

Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your treatment to help your body’s metabolism perform at its best. Have a healthy meal before your treatment. The treatment takes time, so plan to spend some relaxing time at the clinic. We’ll provide you with plenty of refreshments, snacks, and whatever else is needed to make sure you feel your best.

3. Markings and Placement are Everything

We are highly trained and experienced in assessing, visualizing, and mapping out treatment areas to give you the best chance of achieving your goals. We’re very methodical and detailed when marking, as we want to ensure the entire area is treated evenly. The more experienced your CoolSculpting Technician is, the better they are at assessment, marking, placement and results. Tissue not treated or left behind is what you will notice in your final results. It’s so important to have enough coverage over the area of concern with your treatment plan to get a full and complete result.

4. Medication alert

Arnica topical cream applied over the treatment area prior to treatment may help reduce bruising. We can’t promise, but if bruising is a concern, you may want to try it. Avoid NSAIDs such as Advil, ibuprofen, or aspirin-based pain medications. They are not recommended the day before or the day of treatment as it can lead to an increased risk of bruising and can decrease inflammation, which could be counterproductive to your treatment results; we want a bit of an inflammatory response as you recover as it contributes to an enhanced recovery process. If you need to take pain medication, we recommend Tylenol or acetaminophen-based products.

5. Massage Afterwards

Do your best to tolerate the 2-minute massage immediately after each adapter is removed, as 68% of your results come from it. After each adapter is removed, we provide a firm yet gentle massage of the treated tissue to start the metabolism of targeted fat cells. The more we massage, the better the area in the tissue will be cleared.

6. Try Not to Scratch

If you find the treatment area itchy, we advise taking a non-drowsy 24-hour antihistamine for relief. Try not to scratch, rub or irritate the skin over the treatment area, as your skin may be more sensitive after the treatment. The less you irritate it, the better it will recover.

7. Use Topical Cream

Apply the topical cream “Alastin Transform” as part of your recovery. Apply it over the area twice a day, am and pm, for 3 months to enhance your results. Vive Med Spa in Calgary carries this product.

8. Post Treatment Therapy

Skin takes time to catch up to fat reduction post-treatment. As the fat pad shrinks, skin over the area may become loose and somewhat saggy as the volume is reduced underneath. Consider Venus Legacy treatments to tighten loose skin. Venus Legacy incorporates radiofrequency heat energy to stimulate collagen and elastin renewal for firmer and stronger skin. Wait until you have full feeling in the area after CoolSculpting before starting Venus Legacy, which is about 3-6 weeks after your CoolSculpting Treatment.

9. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

This is your perfect opportunity to follow a healthy diet with lots of vegetables, some fruit and healthy protein such as grilled chicken or fish. Avoid processed foods, breads, desserts, alcohol, and high fats. Exercise for 30 minutes a day, and if you’re able, get fresh air outside; a brisk walk, run, bike ride, or exercise class are all good choices. Exercise helps reduce stress and promotes a positive mindset. Remember, CoolSculpting is not a form of weight loss, you still have to manage your weight, and most clients are very motivated to lead a healthy lifestyle and will often lose weight as a result of their healthy choices while they recover from CoolSculpting.

10. Be patient

Results will be gradual; your body will need time to metabolize those little frosted fat cells. It will take up to 3-4 months for the final result, and you may want to do a second or third treatment in the same area. Ensure you attend your follow-up appointments at the clinic. We’ll make sure all is well with your recovery, and we’ll do clinical photography to monitor your progress. We’re here to help and recommend the best plan for you! If you have questions or are unsure about anything, book a consultation if you’re thinking of doing CoolSculpting. If you’ve done your treatment, book a follow-up appointment, text us, or call us if you have any concerns, and we’ll be happy to help anytime.
